How Do YOU Value It?

I recently had the opportunity to spend a few days with some Brothers in Christ in the Lord’s wonderful creation.  A few days spent hunting and shooting and a lot of eating (a lot of eating).  The mornings and afternoons were spent hunting deer from various locations. The off time was spent sharing stories of what we saw, didn’t see, and yet what we still saw though seeing no deer.  Each outing brought new stories that provided much laughter and information with which to heckle one another.

Before each outing much time was spent thinking about, talking about, deciding, talking some more about, and then deciding again where each would sit.  Everyone was excited about a new location to sit and trying to set up in a location that was sure to bring out not just deer but the big boys.  You were excited with what you might see and you were excited with what someone else may see.  As a gunshot would ring out across the tract you sat wondering what someone must have shot.  Everyone was eager to make it back to camp and see what the others saw and maybe even harvested.

Maybe you too share my new found love for hunting and the outdoors.  Maybe you have no interest in hunting and nothing about sitting for hours in a tree to hunt appeals to you.  Even still there is something in your life that does excite you in the same way.  Each of us have hobbies and those things that we just love to do and eagerly wait for the next opportunity to experience and having experienced to share with others.

What about God’s Word?  I have to imagine that there was a day in man’s history that seeing what you and I call the bible was a longed for experience.  There must have been a day where to hold one in your hands and be able to search it for new discoveries was something special because the completed form as we know it today wasn’t readily available.  To say that the Word of God is readily available today would be a great understatement.  Not only does almost everyone, in our country at least, have a personal copy, you probably have multiple copies not including the electronic copies on your phone, computer, internet, etc.

When’s the last time we opened God’s word with the same eagerness and excitement of what we’ll find, what we’ll see, what we’ll learn as we do with hunting or whatever you can relate too?  When’s the last time we got excited thinking about what others were seeing or learning and we were eager to return to a collective bible study to see what everyone else found and to share what you found?

“The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.  More to be desired are they than gold, even much find gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.” (Psalm 19:7-10)
